Health and Safety Executive recommended due diligence of first aid training organisations- done for you!

This applies when choosing to do one of the first aid courses that are not on the UK’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF categorizes qualifications in England based on the difficulty and demand of the qualifications). If you choose to do one of our OFQUAL regulated qualifications, this guidance will not apply as Ofqual regulates First Aid Awards (FAA), our awarding body.

 

Trainers/Assessors:

 

Do the trainers/assessors have a current FAW certificate or qualify for an exemption?

 

  • Our lead trainer, Candice Manby, has a current FAW certificate that is updated every three years.

 

Do the trainers/assessors have appropriate training/assessing qualification?

 

  • Yes- our lead trainer has both a teaching and assessing qualification. Candice Manby (Director) holds a teaching degree BA (Ed) Human Movement Sciences.

 

Quality Assurance:

 

Is there a documented quality assurance plan designating an individual to take responsibility for quality assurance, including assessment of the performance of the trainers/assessors annually?

 

  • Yes- Candice Manby (Director) is the designated person for Vital Life Solutions Ltd. As a NUCO registered instructor, she is also annually monitored and assessed by an independent, appropriately qualified and registered trainer/assessor.

 

Does the designated person have a current FAW certificate?

 

  • Yes- Candice Manby (Director) is the designated person for Vital Life Solutions Ltd and she holds a current FAW certificate as does anyone who completes her annual monitoring for quality assurance purposes.

 

Does the designated person have an assessing/verifying certification?

 

  • Yes- Candice Manby (Director) is the designated person for Vital Life Solutions Ltd and she holds a teaching qualification. Anyone monitoring or assessing her would also hold an Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment qualification.

Is there a documented course evaluation procedure?

 

  • Yes- at the end of each course, delegates are given the opportunity to respond anonymously on a Google form which is emailed to them. These are then reviewed and where follow up is required, this is undertaken to ensure professional and effective delivery of each course.

 

Is there a documented complaints procedure?

 

 

Is there a mechanism for retaining a detailed record of assessments for each student which is stored for a minimum of three years after completion of the course.

 

  • Yes- assessment results are stored digitally and backed up on an external hard  drive which is kept in a safe.

 

Teaching Currently Accepted First Aid Practice

 

Is FAW/EFAW taught in accordance with the current guidelines on adult basic life support published by the Resuscitation Council UK, and for other aspects of first aid, in accordance with current guidelines published by the Voluntary Aid Societies?

 

  • Yes- our course content and syllabus are taken from the Resuscitation Council UK and Voluntary Aid Society guidelines.

  • The number of delegates is limited to 12 per course to ensure training needs are met and competence is adequately assessed.

  • Reasonable adjustments are made where necessary to accommodate learning needs.

  • The requirements for a successful assessment remain as they would for a regulated qualification, regardless of ability or disability and first-aid competence without assistance of any kind, must be demonstrated.

 

Training Syllabus

 

Does the course content adequately meet the needs of your workplace as indicated by your first-aid needs assessment?

 

  • We can tailor our training to suit your workplace needs however essential life saving skills (CPR and AED) will usually form part of the syllabus for the session.

  • If you have specific needs, we can build these into your course, provided this has been discussed and agreed in advance at the time of booking.

  • Individual learner needs will also be considered if made known.

 

For FAW, does the syllabus include topics listed in Appendix 1 and does the course include at least 18 training and assessment contact hours, over three days?

 

  • Yes- we meet all the HSE standards for delivery and content

 

For FAW requalification, does the syllabus include the topics listed in Appendix 1 and does the course last at least 12 training hours and assessment contact hours, over two days?

 

  • Yes- we meet all the HSE standards for delivery and content

 

For EFAW, does the syllabus include the topics listed in Appendix 2 and does the course last at least 6 training hours and assessment contact hours, over one day?

 

  • Yes- we meet all the HSE standards for delivery and content

 

For EFAW requalification, does the syllabus include the topics listed in Appendix 2 and does the course last at least 6 training hours and assessment contact hours, over one day?

 

  • Yes- we meet all the HSE standards for delivery and content

 

For alternative qualifications, where such qualifications are being used for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, does the syllabus contain appropriate content to address the findings of the first-aid needs assessment?

 

  • We can tailor our training to suit your workplace needs based on the findings of your first aid needs assessment however essential life saving skills (CPR and AED) will usually form part of the curriculum for the session.

 

Certificates

 

Do the certificates issued to delegates assessed as competent contain the name of the training organisation, the title of the qualification, reference to the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, the date of issue and confirmation the certificate is valid for three years? (If the training is neither FAW or EFAW the certificate should also list the learning outcomes of the syllabus on which the candidates have been assessed.)
